Islamic School Fundraising

NASIMCO is proud to announce the launch of a series of fundraising initiatives to support the development of Islamic schools across North America. These efforts aim to enhance the educational experience of young Muslim students by fostering environments rooted in Islamic values while promoting academic excellence. Through these fundraisers, NASIMCO seeks to empower schools to expand their facilities, enhance their curricula, and support teacher training, all with the goal of nurturing the next generation of strong, faith-driven leaders. As part of this initiative, schools such as SELM Academy and Al Baqir Academy will directly benefit from the funds raised, ensuring that Islamic education remains accessible and impactful for communities across the continent. We invite all community members to participate in these efforts, supporting the future of Islamic education in North America.

All donations will receive tax receipts.

Al Baqir Academy

AlBaqir Academy is a K-12, full-time, faith-based, independent school located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada that is fully accredited by the Alberta Ministry of Education. It is a not-for-profit society that adheres to the Shi’a Islamic faith, and it is the only such school that is K-12 in Western Canada. The goal of AlBaqir Academy is to educate students in the best academic and Shi’i Islamic religious standards so that they achieve the greatest success religiously and academically, while being moral and contributing citizens to the Canadian society and the World. AlBaqir Academy is succeeding at achieving its goal as it has always demonstrated exceptional academic and religious standards. Provincial Achievement Test results reveal that our students score higher than or on par with Provincial averages. Moreover, AlBaqir Academy students are graduating and receiving scholarships as well as admissions to the most reputable postsecondary institutions in Edmonton, such as the University of Alberta, MacEwan University, and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. In addition, our students are graduating proud of their Shi’i Islamic identity as many of them become active members of the Shi’i community as well as society.
With such exemplary success, AlBaqir Academy is experiencing significant student growth, and hence, it is now in the process of purchasing land and building a state-of-the-art school that can cater to the needs of its students and become a beacon of light for future generations. Our current objective is to raise $20 million dollars. We are reaching out to generous donors like you with the aim of having your support in helping us reach our target and becoming a proud partner in the success of illuminating the minds and hearts of our future generations, while attaining the pleasure of Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) and the Ahlulbayt (‘alayhim assalam).

SELM Academy

Our children are our greatest asset for the future, and their upbringing and education are crucial.
Alongside embracing Canadian values, we aim to pass on our religious and cultural heritage. As a
team of expert educators with deep knowledge of Islamic heritage and academic expertise
(including members holding PhDs in education, master’s degrees in various educational fields, and
psychology), our mission is to integrate the best of modern education with Islamic teachings,
ensuring our children achieve their highest potential and become successful community
members.
There is a critical shortage of space in existing Islamic schools in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Specifically, Selm Academy is the sole Islamic school in the north of York region. The school has
grown from its Beginnings. We currently have more than 70 on our wait list due to limited space at
our current location.
The demand reflects the strong conviction of parents in the excellent education that Selm is
providing to their children. Many of them would like to move close to the school, requiring us to find
a permanent home that accommodates our needs up to high school and beyond.
At Selm Academy, we envision establishing a transformative educational complex in five phases:

  1. Purchasing the new school (Aug 2024)
  2. Minor renovation of the existing building to include 7 classrooms (Sep 2024)
  3. Expanding from 4259 sf to 5381 sf (500 m²) (by Sep 2025)
  4. First-floor expansion to accommodate 10 classrooms (totaling 600 m²) and a large portable
    multi-functional hall (by Sep 2026)
  5. Construction of the second and third floors to house 20 classrooms (totaling 1800 m²) (by
    Sep 2027).
