NASIMCO honors Marhum Al Hajj Mohsin bhai Mohammedali Merali Kamalia

“Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return.”

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Br. Mohsin Kamalia, a beloved and cherished figure of the NASIMCO family and Toronto jamaat.

Br. Mohsin, who was born in Uganda in 1940, made Canada his home in 1972, where he became a dedicated servant to his faith and community. A Chartered Accountant by profession, Br. Mohsin’s contributions extended far beyond his career. He was a tireless volunteer who served in various capacities for over seven decades, always prioritizing the well-being of those around him. His early involvement with the East End Madressa set the stage for a lifetime of service.

As a refugee from Uganda himself, Br. Mohsin’s work was not limited to local efforts; he played an instrumental role in assisting Bosnian refugees resettle in Canada, demonstrating his commitment to humanitarian efforts and compassion for those in need. He was a community stalwart, one of the founders of the NASIMCO Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme, and he served two terms as NASIMCO President during the 1980s, strengthening the organization and supporting its mission.

A lasting legacy was his work with the ISIJ of Toronto during the tenure of Yakub Suleman as ISIJ President in 1972-73, Br. Mohsin took the initiative to purchase 100 graves at York Cemetery on the East side of Senlac Rd in North York. This cemetery continues to serve ISIJ members today, with additional plots having been acquired on the West side to accommodate the growing needs of the jamaat.

Br. Mohsin was deeply devoted to his faith and spirituality. He went for Hajj pilgrimage more than 30 times, a testament to his faith. Earlier this week, while on a spiritual journey to Karbala for the blessed occasion of 15 Shabaan, Br. Mohsin passed away suddenly in Dubai due to natural causes. His passing, while on a sacred pilgrimage, reflects his life’s devotion to Allah and his enduring spiritual journey.

Br. Mohsin is survived by his wife Sr. Shamim Kamalia; and five children Br. Hasnain Kamalia, Sr. Sukayna Kamalia-Jagani, Sr. Shaida Kamalia, Sr. Masuma Kamalia and Br. Mohamedali Kamalia.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and selflessness. His family, friends, and the entire NASIMCO community mourn his loss. We pray that Allah (SWT) grants him the highest ranks in Jannah and provides patience and solace to his loved ones during this challenging time.

May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his remarkable dedication to faith continue to inspire us all.
